We continue to grow and build upon our main goals of strengthening community connections among our neighbors by providing gardening opportunities to those of all abilities, and a source of fresh produce for our neighbors. Our Community Garden site is ideal for gardening, boasts great vertical gardening potential, enjoys full sun and is fully wheelchair accessible. The space also provides plenty of gardening space for communal and individual plots.
We continue to maximize the use of our shared space by strengthening our partnerships with local organizations. Our communal gardening spaces are maintained by volunteers with the goal of growing fresh produce for the food pantry down the street. In a partnership with the local non-profit “Artists Creating Together,” once a week for a month our garden hosts an “Art of Gardening Class” where students with disabilities come together to learn about gardening and create permanent art installations for our garden. Hope Network, a Christian Organization dedicated to caring for the “whole person,” has utilized plots in our garden as a learning and therapeutic place to improve the developmental and behavioral health of their participants. The Creston Neighborhood Association also manages a low income apartment complex for seniors and those with disabilities. Many of our residents volunteer and have had plots in our garden since its creation. The goal of our community garden is to have a space that is truly inclusive to all of our neighbors and that all neighbors will have the chance to interact with others of diverse backgrounds.
